6-101.        Election of governing body.

(a)   The governing body positions with terms expiring in April 2017 shall expire on the second Monday in January of 2018, when the city officials elected in the November 2017 general election take office.

(b)   The governing body positions with terms expiring in April 2018 shall expire on the second Monday in January of 2019, when the city officials elected in the November 2018 general election take office.

(c)   Non-partisan general elections shall take place on the Tuesday succeeding the first Monday in November 2017. Succeeding elections will be held every year for all such governing body positions whose terms have expired. The mayor and one council member from each ward shall be elected at odd numbered year elections and the other council member from each ward shall be elected at the even numbered year elections.

(d)   The mayor and all council members shall have terms of two years.

(e)   Regardless of the number of candidates who have filed for election for any city office there shall be no necessity of a primary election. Every person who has filed for any city office shall be listed on the ballot and shall be voted on by the voters at the general election.

At all city elections the polls shall be open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m., unless different hours are set and publicly announced by the county election officer.

(a)   The terms of officers elected shall commence on the second Monday in January following certification of the election.

(b)   Every person elected or appointed to city office, before entering upon the duties of such office, shall take and subscribe an oath or affirmation as specified in K.S.A. 54-106, and amendments thereto, and every such oath or affirmation shall be filed with the city clerk.
